The long wait for a first Investec Derby victor in the royal blue silks of Godolphin finally came to an end after Masar provided Sheikh Mohammed with the victory he has craved at Epsom.

Masar, a son of the 2008 Derby victor New Approach, set off at 16/1, and brought a premature end to Saxon Warrior's attempt to become just the fourth horse in the last century to pull off an English Triple Crown.

In a Godolphin double, Dee Ex Bee was second - running in the colors of Sheikh Mohammed's son, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. He ran a good race and I'd not like to take it away from the victor in any way. "I was jumping up and down in the final furlong. These things happen, but I wouldn't be making excuses", the trainer said. I've seen plenty of things come and go and fortunately when I was appointed trainer five years ago the goal was to have a Derby victor in the Godolphin blue.

"Charlie Appleby is a very good trainer and the horse came from Dubai". It might have been all new to him as he was drawn in there (one) and down there on the rail, and it would have been a big shock to him.

Although in no rush to make plans, the Ballydoyle handler did not rule out staying at a mile and a half in the Irish Derby.

Solidarity in euro zone should not lead to debt union, Merkel says
But Andrea Nahles, leader of the center-left Social Democrats in the ruling coalition, told the ARD public broadcaster Ms. Merkel's remarks were "very pleasing" with "a totally new tone".

"William gave him a lovely ride and horses are in my blood, so it's very special". He is a baby horse.

"He's still a big baby and probably the biggest horse in the field, everything suggests there should be better to come".

In the opener at Epsom, Shuhood scooted home at Newmarket last time and with the jockey's 5lb claim, looks well placed to follow up. "I've always said when I started this job I wanted to be the first person to have a Derby victor in Godolphin blue".

I would argue that the colt would be much shorter in the betting if he were trained by a more high-profile handler and I feel he is an exciting prospect.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen's racing manager, John Warren attend the second day of the Epsom Derby Festival in Surrey, southern England on June 2, 2017. He put up a great performance in the Guineas and it was always going to be the best trial I thought.
